Who is a Diabetes Educator?



DIABETES EDUCATOR
This VIVO Healthcare certificate program for prospective diabetes educators is designed to provide a structured training in diabetes to freshers and mid-career allied healthcare professionals. This program aims at providing them with the ability to counsel diabetic patients and hence improve the outcomes of therapies provided by their doctor. These certified diabetes educators will fulfil the growing demand for diabetes educators at clinics/hospitals and hence will make interdisciplinary diabetes care teams complete.

After completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate the knowledge of epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, prognosis, and clinical guidelines of diabetes consistent with the practice level of a Diabetes Educator

Describe diabetes, blood glucose monitoring, physical activity, aspects of diet , and foot-care to patients and/or care-givers

Describe pharmacological treatment to patients and/or care-givers on request of their doctor

Assess, plan, and explain goals of diabetes management to patients/care-givers and evaluate the changes on their further visits for intervention

Apply principles of teaching, learning, and behavior change in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate self-management skills in individuals with diabetes

Recognize importance of an interdisciplinary diabetes care team

Identify and apply principles of diabetes education program to systematically improve it in their organization
